The University of Uyo Teaching Hospital Staff Multipurpose Cooperative society was registered and established in 2014 under the Nigerian Co-operative Societies Degree No. 90 of 1993 as amended as an Act of the National Assembly by the 1999 constitution with 10 Members who constituted pioneer membership requirement for registration.

It is important to note that the co-operative in collaboration with the Union has acquired 20,000 Hectares of land along Aka ObotIdim Road by Ring Road 4 in IbesikpoAsutan LGA for UUTH Staff Estate. This land is to be partitioned into 400 plots of 500 square metres each. This will accommodate not less than 400 housing units in the first phase of the project. The negotiation for the land acquisition has been concluded between the Paramount Ruler of IbesikpoAsutan LGA, village council led by the Village Head (Chief Walter) and the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society (UUTHSTAFFMPCS). Above all, the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Lands through the Director (Lands) has given clearance that the land is free from Government encumbrances. In view of the above, the sale of the land was officially flagged off by the former Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Prof. Etete Peters. This ceremony was performed at the UUTH Conference Hall with the village council of Afaha Ikot ObioNkan and others in attendance on October 16, 2017.
